There are many forms of storage media; they range from the better known such as Tape drives, floppy disks, flash drives and the well known Hard Disk drive.
Why do we need storage?
When the power to a PC is switched off, the contents of memory are lost.
It is the PC's hard disk that serves as a non-volatile, bulk storage medium and as the storehouse for a user's documents, files and applications.
The first disk drive, the IBM RAMAC in 1956 had a capacity of 5 million 6 bit characters this is a capacity of a mere 5MB stored across fifty 24in platters.
Today in 2006 Seagate introduces the First 750 GB hard drive.
What action should the averaged PC user take to protect his data?
Install the largest Hard drive that they can afford.
Purchase a external Hard drive for backup.
Purchase and install Backup software.
Listen to the sound of your Hard Drive.
If the sound changes then consider a replacement..
